In the early 1920s, exposed-bulb light fixtures were jettisoned in favor of opaque glass globes that disguised the light source. These pieces found popularity predominantly in schoolhouses, giving this style its name. Here, we start with a classic schoolhouse glass shape and take it up a notch with lovely fluting that beautifully diffuses the light. The uncomplicated metal work and the iconic glass shape call to mind a time when the world seemed a simpler place.

I had high hopes for this Hudson Valley light, but I was a bit disappointed with the color. The old bronze looked more like a dark brown when it arrived, which didn’t match my expectations or my other fixtures. It works fine as a light, but I wish it had been more true to the color in the pictures.

Beautiful light but tricky to install
I really love the look of this Hudson Valley pendant light! The old bronze finish is classy and adds a nice touch to my dining area. However, I found the installation instructions a bit confusing, which made it take longer than expected. Once it was up, though, it looked fantastic!
